Understanding Insomnia

Insomnia is a condition when a person has trouble sleeping or can not sleep long enough in accordance with the time it takes the body even though he has a chance to do so. This causes the physical condition of insomniacs to be not fit enough to perform the activity the next day.

In treating insomnia, the first thing a doctor does is find out what causes. If the insomnia is based on certain unhealthy habits or lifestyle, then the doctor will advise the patient to correct it. If insomnia is caused by a health problem (eg anxiety disorder), then the doctor will first overcome the underlying condition of the anxiety.
In some cases of insomnia, the doctor will advise the patient to undergo cognitive behavioral therapy. This therapy can help patients change the behavior and mindset that affect their sleep.
If deemed necessary, doctors can prescribe sleeping pills for some time. Sleep medicine is a temporary solution only. Handling symptoms of insomnia without finding a solution to the root cause, rarely succeeds completely.
